The Department of Art History & Art Conservation remembers Isabel Bader (LLD '07), who passed away on Sunday. Along with her late husband, Alfred Bader, Isabel was known for her generosity to the Queen's University community. Their Bader Collection -- a donation of over 500 artworks -- included four paintings by Rembrandt, and the Bader name graces the College at Herstmonceux Castle, and Kingston's waterfront Centre for the Performing Arts. An enthusiastic supporter of the arts, Isabel Bader recently funded both the Chair in Art Conservation and a Fellowship in Textile Conservation and Research.

"To have known Isabel – in all her warmth, gentleness, wit, and acuity – I will number among the great privileges of my life," said Queen's University Principal Patrick Deane. "She was a gentle soul who delighted in seeing students thrive and discover their own potential through the arts. I will remember her as indomitably humane."

Norman Vorano, Head of the Department of Art History and Art Conservation, said in a statement, "We are very saddened by this news. Isabel was a remarkable woman whose passionate love of the arts was matched by her deep commitment to students, knowledge, and social equity. Isabel was an ardent and long-standing supporter of our department, and spurred many of us to aspire to greater heights. She will be missed by all of us. We extend our condolences to the entire Bader family at this time."
