The Donald Gordon Hotel and Conference Centre is proudly designated a Fair Trade Workplace. This designation recognizes our support of fairer conditions and better prices for people in the Global South who grow and make our products. Buying Fair Trade gives farmers and workers more power to create a better life for themselves and their communities and enjoy sustainable livelihoods.
Waste Less
All non-perishable and unspoiled perishable food is donated. We redirect all unspoiled food from landfills to our neighbours in need. We appreciate your support of the local community and reducing our environmental impact.
Green Key Global
The Donald Gordon Centre has shown national industry leadership and commitment to protecting the environment through wide-ranging policies and practices. The hotel has mature programs in place that involve management, employees, guests, and the public, and which have shown substantial and measurable results.
Bottled Water Free
Queen’s University has 190 drinking fountains and more than 35 bottle-fill stations located across campus. The installation of the bottle-fill stations supports the campus-wide ban on bottled water sales and distribution that took effect on September 1, 2012. This initiative has diverted an average of 98,000 plastic bottles annually.
Sustainable Seafood
The Donald Gordon Centre now serves 100% sustainable seafood after adopting a policy in February 2021 to source all seafood offered on campus, and events, from a recognized third-party sustainable-certified seafood supplier.
