Celebrating International Women’s Day

Queen’s is hosting a number of events across campus to recognize the day and foster discussions about building a more equitable future for women.

Highlights of Queen's events for International Women's Day include a lunchtime networking session and an online conversation about redefining success.

International Women’s Day on March 8 provides an opportunity for the Queen’s University community to recognize the achievements of women on campus and around the world. It’s also a time to reflect on the progress that has been made toward achieving equity for women in Canada and around the world and to consider the work that remains to be done.

To celebrate this important day, the university and groups across campus are holding events that focus on discussions about women and equity at Queen’s and beyond. Some highlights include:


International Women’s Day 2024 networking and information session

All members of the Queen’s community are invited to celebrate International Women’s Day in the atrium of the Biosciences Complex, 12-1:30 pm. Attendees will hear brief speeches and learn about the various women-focused groups across campus.

This celebration is hosted by the Queen's Women's Network, Women in Science at Queen's, the Chair for Women in Engineering, and affiliates. Food and refreshments will be provided, and donations for the Kingston Interval House will be collected.

Redefining Success: Women, Work, and Finding Balance

Join Smith Business Insight online at 1 p.m. for an empowering hour of conversation about how women can break down barriers, overcome career challenges, and support each other to thrive in the workplace. The panel features executive coach and brand strategist Jill Nykoliation, entrepreneur and corporate go-getter Lulu Liang, and thought leader and architect of change Tanya van Biesen.

The discussion will explore: 

  • How to define success for yourself, at work and beyond
  • How to foster a culture of support and collaboration in the workplace

Feminist Legal Studies Queen’s Conference 2024 

This annual conference for International Women’s Day is being hosted March 8-9 by Feminist Legal Studies Queen’s and Queen’s Faculty of Law. The theme of the conference this year is Gender, “Progress,” and Development: Equality, Sustainability, and Dimensions of Care. A keynote lecture will be delivered by Anita L. Allen, Henry R. Silverman Professor of Law and Professor of Philosophy at University of Pennsylvania’s Carey Law School, who will speak on “Legal Embodiments of Unconditional Love – On Loving the Unborn.”
