Queen’s community members who have text messages or voice calls listed as a multi-factor authentication (MFA) option need to update their account settings before Feb. 1, 2027. Microsoft is retiring these methods, which are more vulnerable to phishing than newer options. Updating them now will help prevent problems signing into Queen’s services.

Those affected should remove all SMS text and voice calling options from their MFA settings and set up one of the following methods, listed in order of preference:

IT Services’ MFA instructions can help users make this change. Beginning in the first week of November 2026, Microsoft will also display daily setup prompts to users who still have text or voice calling listed as an option. The prompts will continue until they remove those methods and configure a replacement.

Anyone who needs help can contact the IT Support Centre through the Online Help Form.
