Leaning chronologically from the 1920s to the present, in 2022-23, History 816 will focus on a variety of themes, issues, and moments in Canadian social and cultural history, including the relationship between the present and the past; the challenges of doing relatively recent histories; the politics of race, gender, class, and sexuality; the development of the “affluent society” in fact and in fiction; urbanization and suburbanization, and Indigenous resistance to and refusal of settler Canadian hegemony.
