Dr. Karen Dubinsky is a Professor Emerita at Queen’s University where she teaches in the departments of Global Development Studies and History. Nominated by Between the Lines Books, Strangely, Friends: A History of Cuban-Canadian Encounters explores the relationship between Canada and Cuba at human level, focusing on the personal encounters between Cubans and Canadians themselves. Transcending political ideologies, state policies, and national borders to reveal a shared humanity, Strangely, Friends demonstrates how these personal relationships left lasting marks on one another’s societies and cultures.
It is our pleasure to award Dr. Dubinsky with the 2026 Wilson Book Prize!
