We are thrilled to share that the Queen Elizabeth Scholars, along with faculty lead Dr. Qingguo Li, have arrived in India and are enjoying their first week at the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, where they will be hosted for the summer.

Queen’s University’s QES scholarship project, "Transdisciplinary Knowledge Translation for Social Transformation: Building Climate Resilient Communities through Co-development", advances the university’s institutional priority of integrating action on the UN Sustainable Development Goals across all levels, including international programming. This initiative places particular emphasis on SDG 13: Climate Action.

This summer, Queen’s scholars are being hosted by the Department of Design at the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, under the supervision of Prof. Bibhuti Ranjan Bhattacharjya. The program builds on the success of the QES 2025 initiative, which was co-organized with the support of Queen’s faculty member Dr. Qingguo Li, Professor and Associate Head in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, Smith Engineering.

We checked in with Dr. Li who shared,

“I am truly grateful to be part of this remarkable group of talented QES scholars. Their experience has been nothing short of transformative, allowing them to deeply integrate into the IIT Roorkee community in a remarkably short time. One of the most valuable aspects of the program is how our students develop a genuine appreciation for the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in tackling real-world challenges."

Follow along with the QES 2026 blog!

We thank Dr. Li for his continued commitment to the program, and we wish the five Queen’s scholars all the best this summer.
