The Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) has opened their 2024 call for scholarships which allow health personnel and other professionals in the field of cancer in French-speaking Africa visit another institution to acquire new skills and strengthen collaborations.


Eligible candidates include public health professionals such as epidemiologists, health educators, social workers, nutritionists, administrators, and other specialized professionals working in the field of cancer care; cancer researchers conducting translational, clinical and/or implementation research; clinicians, nurses and pathologists.

  • Medical students and graduate students are not eligible.
  • The candidate can be of any nationality but must reside in a French-speaking African country (African country member of the international organization of La Francophonie – OIF1) at the time of application.
  • Applicants must hold at least a Master's degree.  Applications from healthcare personnel qualified in medical and nursing sciences may be examined even in the absence of a higher diploma if they can demonstrate experience caring for patients with cancer for at least five years. years.
  • A one year equivalent training qualification in a postgraduate cancer related specialty may be accepted as equivalent to a Masters degree, for example cancer registry related training.
  • All applicants must have worked in the cancer field for at least five years before applying.
Scholarship details
  • Fellowship visits can last a minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 8 weeks.
  • It is the candidate's responsibility to identify an appropriate host supervisor, contact them and obtain their agreement to host them for the duration of the visit. A letter of invitation from the host supervisor, signed by them, must be uploaded as part of the application.
