NY Portuguese Short Film Festival 2017

The Arte Institute in partnership with the Queen's University are pleased to present the VII Edition of the NY Portuguese Short Film Festival on October 19, 2017 at 7:00 PM at Queen’s University  in Kingston.

The event will take place at Queen’s University - Kingston Hall – Room 201

This year, the Festival will brings us ten shorts films by Portugal’s most promising filmmakers. The NY Portuguese Short Film Festival (NYPSFF) was the first Portuguese film festival in NYC and the US. The Festival shows the work of the new generation of young Portuguese directors. By organizing the Festival annually in several countries, the Arte Institute intends to expand and win new audiences for the Portuguese cinema worldwide.
The Director of Arte Institute and the NY Portuguese Short Film Festival, Ana Ventura Miranda says that “The Portuguese Cinema has develop very much in the past years, especially theshort film format and that the NYPSFF  showcases the new directors but also the country itsel fand its creativity”.
The Arte Institute will continue to take the VII Edition NY Portuguese Short Film Festival to all these countries, taking the vanguard of Portuguese cinema and opening new avenues of cultural cooperation. The NY Portuguese Short Film Festival already passed for 5 continents, 21 countries and 44 cities: New York, New Bedford, San Francisco, Sausalito, Berkeley, Providence and Rhode Island in United States; Lisbon, Porto and Cascais in Portugal; Rio de Janeiro, San Paulo and Brasilia in Brazil; Sidney in Australia; Johannesburg in South Africa; Luanda in Angola; Berlin in Germany; Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Kingston in Canada; Macau in Republic of China; Paris in France; Malabo in Equatorial Guinea; New Delli, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Goa, Kolkata and Chandigarh in India; Nairobi in Kenya; Maputo in Mozambique; Warsaw, Cracow, Poznan, Wroclaw and Lublin in Poland; Brno in Czech Republic; London in United Kingdom; Szeged in Hungary; Bucharest in Romania; Dakar in Senegal and Bangkok in Thailand.
The short films were selected and submitted to a distinguished jury composed of figures of American, Portuguese and Brazilian film experts, as Rúben Alves (Director), Márcio Miranda Perez (Sao Paulo International Short Festival) and Don Cato (Director).
