About

Professor Halabi held numerous Teaching Appointments in schools and institutions in Israel before coming to Queen’s in 2010 when she taught Hebrew courses. She is teaching Modern Standard Arabic since 2011. She also organizes Arabic film nights, leads Arabic conversation group and arranges for potluck gatherings with Arabic guests.

In her courses, Professor Halabi focuses on developing general skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing as well as building a cultural awareness. She believes that in order to motivate the students to improve their skills in learning Arabic, they should be exposed to the Arabic culture, traditions, Arabic poetry, music etc. To achieve this, Professor Halabi combines in her classes traditional teaching techniques with audiovisual resources and sources from the Internet. She tries to create inter-personal bonds with her students in order to closely understand their progress, while allowing each student to advance in her/his own pace. She create a friendly environment in which her students feel free to speak, practice the language and participate in class conversations.  Professor Halabi always makes herself available beyond her office hours for the students to ask questions.
