Unfortunately, Kingston no longer has an airport with commercial passenger flights. However, Kingston is in reasonably close proximity to several international airports, and Kingston is well connected to these airports by various transit options as outlined below.
If part of your travel involves air travel, your best options are to fly to the Toronto Pearson Airport, the Montréal Trudeau International Airport, or the Ottawa International Airport. Likely the easiest option is to fly to Toronto Pearson, although all options work. Depending on the airport, once you land you can travel to Kingston either by train, bus, or car.
Kingston is serviced by Megabus and FlixBus.
Megabus
- The Megabus has pick-up locations in Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal; however, only in Toronto is there a pick-up directly at the airport.
- Regardless of which city you begin your journal, the Megabus has a stop in Kingston at the Kingston Bus Terminal (1175 John Counter Blvd), which is approximately an 11 minute drive from Queen's University.
- If departing from Toronto or the Toronto Pearson airport, there is an additional stop directly on the Queen's University campus.
FlixBus
- FlixBus has pick-up locations in Toronto and Ottawa, but does not appear to have a route from Montreal to Kingston. Like Megabus, only in Toronto is there a pick-up location directly at the airport.
- The FlixBus stop in Kingston is located at 275 Wellington Street, which is about a 6 minute drive from campus.
- Unlike Megabus, there does not appear to be a stop directly on the Queen's University campus.
Kingston is serviced by Via Rail, and has connections between Kingston and each of Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal.
- The Via Rail station in Kingston is located at 1800 John Counter Blvd, which is about a 15 minute drive from campus.
- The Via Rail does not connect directly to any of the airports mentioned above, and thus separate transportation will need to be arranged between the airport and the train station.
- In Toronto, the UP Express directly connects Toronto Pearson Airport to Union Station, where you can catch a Via Rail train.
Queen's University is approximately 289 km (3 hours) from the Toronto Pearson Airport, approximately 273 km (3 hours) from the Montréal Trudeau International Airport, and approximately 185 km (2 hours) from the Ottawa International Airport. For driving directions, try Google Maps.
Parking
If you are staying in on-campus accommodation, there is a surface parking lot (Tindall Surface Parking Lot; see the Conference Venue page for a campus map) that will be available for parking for a fee. Most hotels have their own parking lot where you can park for a fee. If staying in an Airbnb, there is likely driveway or road parking available, although we cannot guarantee this.
- Mostly places where you stay will be within walking distance of the Queen's University campus.
- If you prefer to drive to campus, you can park on the Tindall Surface Parking Lot for a daily fee paid through the HONK App.
- Many local bus routes are operated by Kingston Transit. However, if you plan to take the local bus, it is recommended that you buy bus passes ahead of time. Although it is possible to pay on the bus, the bus will only take (Canadian) coins and will not provide change. You cannot pay for bus passes by credit card on the bus.
- There are multiple taxi companies that operate in Kingston, as well as Uber.
