“Epistemic Rituals: How IRCAs Institutionalise Speculative Theories of Black Male Criminality in Canadian Sentencing,” has been published in the Manitoba Law Journal as part of the annual Robson Crim Special Issue.
The article introduces the analytic concept epistemic rituals to interrogate how speculative theories of Black male criminality have become embedded in Canadian sentencing jurisprudence. The paper is also the first Canadian-focused engagement with Black Male Studies analysis of speculative theories in sentencing law.
