First-Year Off-Campus Community

Welcome to First-Year Off-Campus Community!
A place for everyone to call home

The Queen's First-Year Off-Campus Community (First-Year OCC, or OCC) is a group of current first-year students living off-campus and their upper-year student "Off-Campus Leaders (OCLs)." The First-Year OCC aims to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for first-year students living off-campus during their transition to university. Our goal is to help ease your transition into the Queen's community and provide social support and specific resources for those who live off-campus – whether that be with family, friends, or in your own space!

The First-Year OCC offers yearlong support through your leaders and the program to connect you with your peers, community, and resources at Queen’s.

If you want information or have any questions, please reach out to

The First-Year OCC is a free program – any first-year off-campus student is welcome to register and attend - and registration helps with the planning process!

We have monthly events, newsletters, and personalized communications and advice directly from your upper-year leaders throughout the year to support you! We are looking forward to seeing you!

All event info will be shared on the First-Year OCC Facebook page, Instagram and Raftr!

Off-Campus Leaders are your year-long support system for everything off-campus! They are the ones who will be leading you through activities and will answer any of your questions. You will be assigned one leader who leads their own small group of students, but you’re encouraged to contact any of our OCLs if you have a question that falls in their area of expertise! Check out their bios below for more information!

Here are your 2022-2023 Off-Campus Leaders:

Hello! My name is Stefanie (she/her), and I am one of the Off-Campus Leaders in the First-Year Off-Campus Community! I am currently in my third year of Health Sciences at Queen's, and this is my second year as an OCL. Throughout the year, I will be helping to lead orientation events and group activities and provide support and resources to all of you! Seeing students find their place at Queen's through this community has been incredibly rewarding. I am so excited to get to know everyone and help in this transition!

Hey everyone! My name is Matt (he/him), and I am going into my third year of Global Development Studies. I am excited to volunteer as an Off-Campus Leader, supporting first years in their transition to living away from home, off-campus in Kingston. As a transfer student, I have never had the on-campus residence experience at Queen's, and I am keen to share what I have learned from my years off campus.

Hi, my name is Zongchu (Jackson) Xu and I am going into my fourth year of a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Economics. I will be your off-campus leader this year. In this role, I will respond to questions from you, build close connections, interact and support you throughout the year, and assist with OCC events. In my spare time, I like playing badminton in the ARC, hanging out with friends, or playing video games.
