'Out of the Deep' - Jonathon Adams and Sophie Gent

This performance features violinist Sophie Gent and baritone Jonathon Adams, who will be joined by a stellar group of musicians in a program titled Out of the Deep. The program is inspired by the text of Bruhns’s lament, De Profundis (“Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord…”).

Born in “amiskwaciwâskahikan” (Edmonton), Jonathon Adams is an Indigenous (Cree-Métis) baritone whose career has taken off in North America and beyond. Recent and future solo engagements include performances with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic and the San Francisco Symphony, under Masaaki Suzuki, the Ricercar Consort and Collegium Vocale Gent, Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montréal, Servir Antico, Washington Bach Consort, and the Portland Baroque Orchestra.

Sophie Gent is an acclaimed Australian-born baroque violinist known for her work as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral leader across Europe. She serves as concertmaster with Ensemble Pygmalion and the Ricercar Consort, and performs regularly with leading ensembles including Ensemble Masques, Ensemble Arcangelo and Le Caravansérail. A dedicated educator, she has taught at major early-music institutions in Amsterdam, Boulogne-Billancourt, Vannes and Cluny, and performs on a 1676 Jacob Stainer violin.
