Further Information
Queen's School of Music is recognized for its strengths in all areas of traditional Western musical training: theory/composition, music history/musicology, and performance, as well as music education. We also offer courses in world musics, jazz, popular music, and music technology.
Our Bachelor of Music program is unique in its flexibility. All courses are open to all B.Mus. students, allowing each student to individualize their program. All students take core courses in your first and second years. You then choose your areas of specialization in years three and four by selecting courses from any of the music specialty areas for which you have the necessary background.
Performance opportunities abound, ranging from playing or singing in the School's varied ensembles to performing with the Kingston Symphony Orchestra to Queen's Musical Theatre or Queen's Student Opera.
Students whose goal is school teaching may enroll in the five-year concurrent program, combining a BMus. with a Bachelor of Education. The BAH, BMus., and BMus,/BEd degrees allow you room to fulfill the second teaching subject or breadth requirements for admission to teacher training programs. The Bachelor of Arts programs give you access to a wide range of music courses for academic credit, including private studio lessons.
