Graduate Programs in Arts Management & Leadership

The Dan School of Drama and Music, and the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts (IBCPA) have two new exciting programs - a new Arts Management Graduate Diploma and a Master's in Arts Leadership. These programs are ideal for students and working professionals who have the passion and acumen for the arts  and see their careers not so much as on the stage but rather directing from behind the scenes - directing the business operations that is.

The focus is on developing 21st century leadership and management capabilities. Course work covers strategic planning and thinking, a specific focus on comprehensive revenue development in arts marketing and philanthropy, cultural policy, contract negotiations and labour relations, financial and management accounting, and digital entrepreneurship.

The program will focus on inquiry-based research, applied learning in live-site analysis and the rigorous exchange of ideas, producing graduate students who are immediately qualified to assume specialized administrative positions with professional arts organizations and who will eventually assume leadership.

Certificate in Business (for Arts and Science students)

Studying Arts and Science but interested in Business? This unique Certificate in Business is an accelerated way to gain a competitive advantage in the job market. You will learn business fundamentals, financial and management accounting, marketing, finance and organizational behavior in addition to completing your major within Arts and Science. Graduate Diploma in Business

This program is designed for you - for any Queen’s graduate of non-business programs. Complete a yearlong program in only 4 months beginning in May. A perfect way to round out your Arts and Science Degree in a short period of time. Credits earned for this diploma also represent a credit toward a Queen’s MBA degree; as well as many are eligible for credit in other Queen’s School of Business Master’s degree programs.

Queen's Certificate in Business

The CIB program is happy to announce that they are able to offer a limited number of spots in the Certificate program to students who are entering their 3rd year of studies in Arts and Science.

Queen’s Certificate in Business has been designed for Queen’s University Arts and Science students who want to gain fundamental knowledge in the key areas of business, in order to broaden their career options upon graduation.

Curriculum

The certificate offers a series of six introductory level Commerce courses. Students who successfully complete all of these courses will receive a Queen’s Certificate in Business, which will be recognized on their final transcript.

Admission Criteria

Students must meet the following admission requirements:

  • Must be registered as a full-time student at Queen’s University and maintain full-time status throughout the length of the Certificate in Business.
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time Honours student in the Arts and Science faculty.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.60.
  • Must have achieved a minimum grade point of C+ (2.3) (67 – 69.9%) in any completed 200 level or 600 level Commerce (COMM) course (if they have taken a 200 or 600 level course but they do not have to prior to applying).
  • Must be able to complete the Certificate within the maximum 24.0 units of Commerce (COMM) elective courses permitted in Arts and Science.
  • Note that there is a maximum of 24.0 units of Commerce (COMM) elective courses permitted in Arts and Science degree programs.

Graduate Diploma in Business

Designed for recent university graduates with a degree in a non-business discipline. A comprehensive overview of business fundamentals. This 4-month program starts in May at Queen's School of Business in Kingston, Ontario. The curriculum includes 8 courses.

Every course offered in the program represents a credit toward a Queen's MBA degree. As well, some courses are eligible for credit toward other Queen’s School of Business Master’s degrees.

The Curriculum for the Graduate Diploma in Business consists of 8 courses, all of which are credit courses for the Queen's MBA. These courses are:
