Tom HewittMake it Your Mission

By Tom Hewitt, Chief Development Officer

Thank you to everyone who kept ALT members on their toes at Advancement Enhancement Day. It was inspiring to see your commitment and enthusiasm for our new mission. I was pumped to see the ways in which some of our teams had taken the mission to heart. There is still time for everyone to find a way to make the mission part of our culture.

And while nothing charges me up more than reciting the mission three times fast, knowing and embracing your organization’s mission statement has been directly correlated to improved results. Every day, we have the opportunity to achieve great things, change the lives of our students, and change the world.

There are still more opportunities to engage with the new mission — to foster relationships that advance Queen’s and contribute to a better world — and we are excited to see what you do next. Gather for coffee or lunch with your colleagues and say the mission together — forwards, backwards, in tongues if you can. Just do it.

Kim Day Leads Raptors to Victory

Shout-out to Raptors superfan Kim Day on leading the Advancement charge to give the Raptors the push they needed to win the NBA Finals last week. We the North!

Summer Summerhill Renovations

The west side of Summerhill (Alumni Relations) is getting a summer makeover. For health and safety issues related to air quality, the carpets and wallpaper will be removed and a new coat of paint added. Thanks in advance to all those staff who will be temporarily displaced for making the best of a necessary situation. Please contact Deanna Bennett with any questions.

A Principal for the Ages

Congratulations to Principal Daniel Woolf on a decade of service to his alma mater! It was a privilege for many in Advancement to work closely with the Principal on the highly successful Initiative Campaign. With only days left in his second term, it’s not too late to send him a personal note, tweet, or a shout-out if you see him around campus.

For those who haven’t heard, the Principal’s nickname, given to him by his floormates, was leaked last week (now that repercussions are unlikely). A young Daniel Woolf avoided the obvious nicknames like “Danny” and “Dan the Man." Instead, he was known as “WoolfDan” over at “Third Brock."

Bravo, Principal Woolf, on a job well done!

Vacation Season

It’s that time of year for many staff members. Time to rest, to relax, to step away from our work routine and recharge. Be sure to take time to organize your work so you can enjoy a worry-free vacation and keep our business moving forward.

National Philanthropy Day (Nov. 15) celebrates the outstanding commitment from supporters of non-profit organizations in our communities. Advancement is looking for creative ways for Queen’s to demonstrate its gratitude for the people and organizations who contribute so much to the university. Please submit your ideas by June 25 to Scott Anderson, scott.anderson@queensu.ca
