Emily is a 2nd year Master’s student in Cultural Studies. Hailing from New Brunswick, Emily completed her undergraduate degree in Media and Culture Studies at the UNB (Fredericton), where her love for the anti-disciplinarity of Cultural Studies bloomed and inspired her to further pursue academics. She is currently living in Kingston with her partner Raymond and her cat Toki.

Emily’s research focuses on the body and technology, technology as embodied cultural objects, and the representation of these technologies in popular media. Emily utilizes a posthuman feminist lens for analysis of these objects and their inherent gendered traits, and how these speak to larger hegemonic patriarchal concepts of gender. Emily believes that by unpacking the ideological structures that exist in the design, development, and use of the technologies, we can begin to intervene with the concept of scientific objectivity and how this acts to obscure the values and beliefs that impact technology and our use of it.
