This award supports research collaborations between Canada and select partner organizations and eligible countries and regions.

Students Meet Cuban Canadian Jazz Pianist at the Isabel

DEVS 306 students enjoy a night of Cuban music at Queen’s

Cuban Culture and Society (DEVS 306) students met famed Cuban Canadian jazz pianist and bandleader Hilario Duran backstage at the Isabel recently, during his Big Band concert. Duran’s 15-piece ensemble featured some of Canada’s best jazz musicians, Cuban and Canadian. Duran wished the students well in their studies of Cuban culture at Queen’s, and their time in Havana in May.

Renowned musician Alex Cuba will receive an honorary degree from Queen’s University during the Fall Convocation ceremony on Wednesday October 12th.  He was nominated by Karen Dubinsky and Susan Lord who are the instructors of the Cuban Culture and Society courses (DEVS 306/307).

Congratulations to Dr. Susanne Soederberg for being recognized as a field-leading researcher by the Royal Society of Canada.  Dr. Soederberg is internationally recognized for her trailblazing research on how policymaking influences social inequalities at overlapping scales from local to global. With a focus on producing societal knowledge based on principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion, she has become one of the most influential political economists studying contemporary capitalism across the global North/South divide.
