Across Canada’s universities, the drive for open collaboration fuels discovery and innovation. Yet this same openness can expose researchers and institutions to growing global risks. Recognizing these challenges, Public Safety Canada’s Research Security Centre offers Safeguarding Science Workshops.
This series introduces best practices for building a security-conscious research environment, tools for identifying and mitigating risks, and guidance on recognizing “dual-use” technologies and innovations that can be applied for both beneficial and harmful purposes.
Safeguarding Science modules below are open to all, offered either virtually or in person.
- Safeguarding science: raising awareness of security risks and mitigation tools in the research ecosystem
- Dual-use technologies: know your research - know your partners - assess the risk
- Demystifying the international student immigration process
- Know before you export: Canada’s export and brokering controls
- Sanctions 101 - Global Affairs Canada
- Travelling safely: protecting your research while travelling abroad
- Conducting open-source due-diligence
By equipping participants with the awareness and tools to safeguard their work, Public Safety Canada’s initiative reinforces the shared responsibility of maintaining research integrity at every level of the academic enterprise.
