Research Communication and Promotion

Queen's works with faculty and students to mobilize research outputs and impact to a variety of different stakeholder groups. Sharing research beyond academic circles not only raises your professional profile but also enhances the visibility and impact of your research.

Research communications and outreach activities can target industry partners, policymakers, community organizations, and the broader public, helping bridge the gap between discovery and real-world application. They foster collaboration, attract funding opportunities, and demonstrate the impact of Queen's research beyond campus.

Science Rendezvous Kingston

Science Rendezvous Kingston (SRK) is an annual science fair that brings together the Kingston community with local researchers. It provides a great professional development and team building opportunity for students, staff, and faculty. SRK engages local museums, conservation groups, professional organizations, school boards, and other community partners to provide our visitors with high-quality, hands-on activities and promote public engagement in research.

Research storytelling

The Research Promotion team works with faculty members and cross-campus communications partners to promote Queen's research accomplishments and services. We craft research stories for the Queen's Gazette and social media channels, as well as a weekly newsletter for research faculty and staff. Contact us if you would like to discuss a communications strategy for your research program, if you had a paper accepted for publication in a major journal, or if you have received an award.

The Conversation Canada

A daily independent online publication, The Conversation Canada delivers analysis and explanatory journalism from the academic and research community directly to the public. Queen’s has been a founding partner since 2017 with hundreds of Queen’s researchers sharing their research expertise in articles generating millions of reads globally. Researchers can write both timely and timeless articles and track their knowledge mobilization progress with a personalized analytics dashboard.

Media relations

Share your research findings or provide expert commentary in the news. University Relations offers media training and supports researchers interested in promoting upcoming publications and recent discoveries or to become expert commentators.

Art of Research photo contest

The Art of Research is an annual photo contest for Queen’s faculty, staff, students, and alumni to showcase their research, scholarly, and artistic work. The competition is aimed at providing a creative and accessible method of sharing and celebrating the groundbreaking research being done by current and past Queen’s community members.
