On June 21, 2023 the convocation ceremony for Queen's University graduates of the Global Development Studies program was held at the Leon's Centre in Kingston.

Faculty and staff attended to celebrate the graduates and to meet their families.

The International Water Resources Association named the Municipal Services Project (MSP) research as the Best Paper of the Year in 2022!

The Department of Global Development Studies has Teaching Assistantships available in the following courses for 2023-2024 academic year. TAships are filled according to Group Preferences set out in the Collective Agreement between Queen’s University and the Public Service Alliance of Canada

The Department of Global Development Studies congratulates Tineke Kippers on successfully defending her Master of Arts Thesis entitled, “He only wanted to give me a child to take care of”: A Qualitative Analysis of the Everyday Social Reproduction Experiences of Haitian Women Raising Peacekeeper-Fathered Children.

DEVS is pleased to announce that PhD candidate Jordan Stark was awarded the Mitacs Globalink Research Award (GRA) – National Research Foundation of South Africa https://www.mitacs.ca/en/programs/globalink/globalink-research-award. This award supports research collaborations between Canada and select partner organizations and eligible countries and regions.

The Global Development Studies Department congratulates Jadyn Kuah for being the recipient of the 2022-2023 Eileen Krieger Award. This award honours a graduating student in the DEVS program who demonstrates the qualities cherished in Eileen: strong extra-curricular involvement at Queen's, a positive attitude, strong leadership skills, and excellent academic standing.

Congratulations to Dr. Rebecca Hall on being selected as the winner of the 2023 International Studies Association Global Development Studies Book Award for her book Refracted Economies (University of Toronto Press, 2022).

DEVS 306 students enjoy a night of Cuban music at Queen’s

Cuban Culture and Society (DEVS 306) students met famed Cuban Canadian jazz pianist and bandleader Hilario Duran backstage at the Isabel recently, during his Big Band concert. Duran’s 15-piece ensemble featured some of Canada’s best jazz musicians, Cuban and Canadian. Duran wished the students well in their studies of Cuban culture at Queen’s, and their time in Havana in May.
