What is Literature?

An open book turning pages

We think we know what literature is when we see it, but can we really pin it down? Literary studies is not only reading books; it involves all kinds of language arts, as when we hear poems, listen to songs, watch performances, or play games. This course explores different kinds of literature—from both low and high culture, and across performance, print and digital media—in order to better understand the ways it engages and impacts the imagination.
