Special Topics in Environmental Science - Winter 2022
TOPIC: Ecosystem Rewilding

Course Description

This course will explore aspects of biodiversity conservation and habitat restoration, especially those carried out at landscape and regional scales. Topics will include habitat connectivity, protected areas, species reintroductions, greater park ecosystems, natural heritage networks, and the “3 Cs” of rewilding: cores, corridors, and carnivores. Competing notions of ideas such as wilderness, ecosystem integrity, and the use of historical reference points, will also be discussed. Students will gain exposure to real-world applications of rewilding, and the challenges facing its implementation.
