As part of International Women’s Week, SVPRS has partnered with the Ban Righ Centre to host a lunchtime discussion featuring local speakers and experts exploring the often-unseen labour of care in academic life.

The Weight of Care: Beyond Balance in Academic Life opens a conversation about caregiving, boundaries, healthy relationships, and safety within the university community. Together, we’ll reflect on how care work is distributed, valued, and experienced and what it means to move beyond the idea of “balance” toward more sustainable and supportive approaches.

This panel discussion will bring together experts to talk about what healthy relationships look like in a world of direct messages (DMs), dating apps, group chats and constant connection.

It is open to all members of the Queen’s community—students, staff, faculty—to anyone who wants to support the celebration of sexual and gender diversity at Queen’s, regardless of how they themselves identify in terms of gender identity or sexual orientation. The goal of the Positive Space Program is to make campus a safer and more affirming place for 2SLGBTQIA+ students, staff, faculty, and guests. 

To become a participant and post a sticker, you need to complete a self-paced course and attend an in-person or virtual session. You can arrange to have an in-person or virtual session presented especially for your group by completing the Training Request Form.

Erin Clow

Associate Director, Accessibility, Equity and Inclusion

Erin Clow has worked for over a decade in the areas of equity, accessibility, human rights, and inclusion, leading education and learning initiatives alongside strategic policy and program development to support inclusive practices. She currently serves as Associate Director, Accessibility, Equity and Inclusion where she guides initiatives that advance equity, accessibility, and belonging across the campus community.

In addition to her role in the Human Rights & Equity Office, Erin has held faculty appointments since 2014, teaching a diverse range of undergraduate and graduate courses that draw on her expertise in equity, qualitative research, and critical social inquiry.

She holds a PhD in Political Studies from Queen’s University, a Master of Arts in Canadian and Indigenous Studies, and a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Women’s Studies and Political Studies.
