Robert Sutherland Visitorship

The Provost’s Advisory Committee for the Promotion of the Arts is responsible for annually seeking and adjudicating proposals from members of the Queen's community to invite persons of distinction to be Robert Sutherland Visitors, or host scholarly events. The purpose of the Robert Sutherland Visitorship is to enable dialogue and inspire action around race-related, equity and justice issues in order to shape our citizens of tomorrow. Robert Sutherland Visitors are expected to deliver a public lecture and to be available during the visit to meet formally and informally with appropriate segments of the Queen's and Kingston communities.

Successful applicants will make all arrangements for the visits or events and be responsible for the reception of the Robert Sutherland Visitors while on campus. After the visits or events, the hosts will report to the Provost’s Advisory Committee for the Promotion of the Arts on the expenditure of the allotted funds and on the activities of the Robert Sutherland Visitors or events.

The Provost’s Advisory Committee for the Promotion of the Arts will report annually to the Senate on the Robert Sutherland Visitorship, indicating how the income of the Sutherland endowment was spent and the activities of the Robert Sutherland Visitors.
