Chancellor Dunning Trust Visitorship

The Provost’s Advisory Committee for the Promotion of the Arts is responsible for annually seeking and adjudicating proposals from members of the Queen's community to invite persons of distinction to be Chancellor Dunning Trust Visitor. The purpose of the Chancellor Dunning Trust Visitorship is to promote the understanding and appreciation of the supreme importance of the dignity, freedom and responsibility of the individual person in human society. The terms of reference for the Chancellor Dunning Trust were expanded in March 2019. Going forward, the annual income from the endowment can be used to cover the expenses relating to: public lectures; performances, speaker series, scholarly events and media presentations.  Preference will be given to proposals that support a public lecture.

Successful applicants will make all arrangements for the visits and be responsible for the reception of the Chancellor Dunning Trust Visitor(s) while on campus. After the visit, the hosts will report to the Provost’s Advisory Committee for the Promotion of the Arts on the expenditure of the allotted funds and on the activities of the Chancellor Dunning Trust Visitor(s).

Every five years, the Provost’s Advisory Committee for the Promotion of the Arts will review the terms of reference of the Chancellor Dunning Trust Visitorship and, as necessary, make recommendations that will ensure that the visitorship best serves the needs of the Queen's community. The advisory committee will report annually to the Senate on the Chancellor Dunning Trust Visitorship, indicating how the income of the Dunning endowment was spent and the activities of the Chancellor Dunning Trust Visitor(s).
