It is with great sadness that the Department of Physics, Engineering Physics & Astronomy announces the passing of Aubert Pereira. Mr. Pereira was with the department for over 20+ years. In the words of who knew and worked with him, he was a "real gentleman".

Aubert Pereira

Aubert Joseph Diego Pereira passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024 at the Kingston General Hospital surrounded by family. Born on October 13, 1935 in Mumbai India, he studied Mathematics and Electrical Engineering in Birmingham England. He married his wife Phoebe Rita Guerra in 1970 before moving to Canada where their two sons, Raoul and Suresh were born. Aubert worked at RCA and then St. Lawrence College in Brockville and Kingston before working in the Physics Department at Queen’s University. He was a renowned field hockey and soccer player in his youth. He enjoyed playing and coaching soccer when Raoul and Suresh were young, and loved to hear his grandchildren tell stories about their school and extracurricular activities. For many years, He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus at one point achieving fourth degree status and was quite active in his Church community. Aubert was a kind and thoughtful man and will be missed by many.

Aubert is survived by his wife Phoebe, sons Raoul (Bina) of Edmonton AB, and Suresh; his grandchildren Krishnan, Kiran, and Nikhil all of Edmonton AB, his twin brother Aelred of Myrtle Beach, SC and his sisters Adela and Dymphna of Charlotte, NC and Verena (Edgar) of Atlanta, GA, sister-in-law Atila (Mumbai) and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, brother Conleth, sister-in-law Betty and brother-in-law Robert.

A special thank. you to the staff and physicians, medical residents, nursing staff and social worker at Kingston General Hospital who went above and beyond in their care of Aubert and compassion and communication with the family.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will he held at St. Paul the Apostle Church on Friday, May17, 2024 at 11:30am, with family receiving guests before Mass from 10:30am to 11:30am. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. Arrangement entrusted to the Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Home, Township Chapel.
