Ensemble Concert Series

The Queen's University Jazz Ensemble provides a place for music students at Queen's to collaborate in the creation of big band music. Students from the DAN School of Drama and Music, plus students from many other disciplines come together each year to create a unique ensemble. The repertoire is usually taken from traditional big band charts and also explores new music by musicians who are currently active in today's music scene. This upcoming concert will feature music from the classic Lee Morgan recording "The Procrastinator" plus music by the contemporary ensemble, the Yellowjackets. The program will be rounded out with a medley of works by Count Basie and Duke Ellington and will also include works by The Modern Jazz Quartet. A special note should be made that we will premiering an original piece of music, "Cash Out" for jazz ensemble, created by Dan School of Drama and Music student, Paul Hrkach. We will also be joined by jazz ensemble alumni, trumpeter, Blair Yarranton as the featured soloist on the Lee Morgan Suite.
