Queen's Volunteer Engagement Certificate
Do you work with volunteers, or plan to in the future? Would you like the opportunity to professionalize your credentials with a Queen’s certification in volunteer management? If so, consider registering for QVEC, a certificate program designed especially for Queen’s faculty and staff who work with volunteers. Presented by Internationally Certified Volunteer Relations staff, QVEC will provide practical tools and techniques to manage volunteers within the higher-education context.
Course highlights include:
- Developing position descriptions & setting up a framework for engaging volunteers
- Queen’s-specific recruitment tools and techniques
- Strategies for effective orientation and on-boarding
- Developing meaningful recognition programs
- Risk management tools, resources & supports
This certificate is offered as part of the Queen's Human Resources Learning Catalogue.

Learn how to leverage the Queen’s Alumni Volunteer Opportunities Directory (VOD), an online forum for volunteer recruitment, information and professional development. |

Module 3: Setting Volunteers up for Success - Orientation & Training |
Learn how Alumni Relations & Annual Giving has developed a comprehensive orientation strategy for close to 300 student volunteers each year to prepare them for Homecoming weekend. Templates and tools will help you create a consistent and standardized orientation program. |

Module 4: Valuing Volunteer Contributions - Recognition & Evaluation |
Self-directed (no in-class session) In this online self-directed module, learn how to approach volunteer recognition and evaluation in meaningful ways. Examples from Queen’s Alumni Relations & Annual Giving and external resources will provide you with strategies to ensure volunteers feel valued as integral partners. As with the in-class modules, be sure to register for Module 4 through Queen’s Human Resources Learning Catalogue in order to have your work counted towards your QVEC completion. |

Module 5: Five Steps to Volunteer Risk Management & Course Review |
Demystify Risk Management! This session will provide you with practical tools, resources and supports to recognize and effectively manage risks within your volunteer program. Included in this session is a review and summary of the overall course content. |
