Strategic Engagement

The official mission of the Queen's University Alumni Association (QUAA) is "to reach out and foster a lifelong association with Queen's, to engage our members in the life and work of the University, and to serve the alumni community in all its diversity."

The Association is governed by a volunteer President and Board of Directors, who are drawn from a constituent assembly made up of representatives of alumni branches. The President works closely with the Department of Alumni Relations.

In addition to supporting key on campus events like reunions, the QUAA also host a number of award presentations across Canada and run an annual Alumni Volunteer Summit.

Objectives set for 2022-23

Following a full and final review of the annual plans for the Office of Advancement and all faculties, the Advancement Leadership Team (ALT) is thrilled to report that the 2022-23 plan is almost final.

Still outstanding is the confirmation of some common elements between the plans. It was heartening to see common elements amongst the tactics related to dashboards, annual giving, stewardship, surveys, newsletters, and templates.

Reflecting on my time with the CCAE board

At the time of this writing, the 2022 Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE) National Conference in Niagara Falls was nearing completion. Bringing together educational advancement delegates from across the country, this year’s conference marked the return of in-person activities after a two-year hiatus. While many of us have maintained close contact with our colleagues through virtual platforms, it was great (speaking for myself) to join others on site.

Share your experience with the ALT

Over the last two years, we’ve dedicated a lot of space in this newsletter to reflecting on how the COVID-19 pandemic has turned our lives upside down. I don’t think we need another recap of how drastically things have changed, but I do want to point out that the pandemic and the other watershed events of the last couple of years have inspired the Advancement Leadership Team (ALT) to reconsider just about every aspect of our working lives. I think it’s safe to say that this subject will remain at the forefront of our discussions well into the future.

Unsung heroes of Advancement

We have all experienced periods when we must balance day-to-day operations and requests for attention with an atypically high volume of responsibilities to meet looming deadlines or immovable targets.

This is the lead up to a solicitation. This is Homecoming, or any event. The release of the Queen’s Alumni Review, mid-year and year-end reviews, or the launch of new technology or reporting mechanism are some other recognizable examples of this scenario.
