The Meds '53 Bursary

The Meds ’53 Bursary was established in January 2003 by members of the Medicine Class of 1953 to mark the occasion of their 50th reunion. The bursary is awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The capital balance of the Meds '53 Bursary was $154,386 as of April 30, 2022. The capital balance was ranked 9th out of 42 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Since its inception, the Meds '53 Bursary has disbursed $102,775 to 21 medical students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

The Meds 1954 Bursary

This Bursary was established by the Medicine Class of 1954 in 2004. The bursary is awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen’s University.

The capital balance of the Meds 1954 Bursary was $353,067 as of April 30, 2021. The capital balance was ranked 2nd out of 42 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Since its inception, the Meds 1954 Bursary has disbursed $145,770 to 46 students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

The Meds '57 Bursary

This Bursary was established by members of the Medicine Class of 1957 in recognition of their 40th reunion. The Bursary is awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any medical year within the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University, who are residents of Ontario.

The capital balance of the Meds ‘57 Bursary was $203,613 as of April 30, 2025. The capital balance was ranked 7th out of 42 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The Meds 1958 Memorial Bursary

Established in April 2004 by members of the Medicine Class of 1958 in recognition of their 45th reunion and as a memorial to the loss of class members and family. Awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University.

The capital balance of the Meds '58 Bursary was $149,327 as of April 30, 2022. The capital balance was ranked 11th out of 42 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Since its inception, the Meds '58 Bursary has disbursed $91,430 to 23 medical students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

The Meds '59 Bursary

Established in October 2010 by members of the Medicine Class of 1959 in recognition of their 50th reunion. The Bursary is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to undergraduate students in any year of the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The capital balance of the Meds ‘59 Bursary was $65,559 as of April 30, 2022. The capital balance was ranked 25th out of 42 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Since its inception, the Meds ‘59 Bursary has disbursed $34,180 to 12 medical students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

The Meds '62 Bursary

Established by members of the Medicine Class of 1962 in recognition of their 35th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any medical year within the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University, who are residents of Ontario.

The capital balance of the Meds'62 Bursary was $399,896 as of April 30, 2022. The capital balance was ranked 1st out of 42 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Since its inception, the Meds'62 Bursary has disbursed $255,925 to 98 students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

The Meds 1963 Bursary Fund

Established in March 1980 and revised in January 2019 by the Medicine Class of 1963 in celebration of their 15th reunion in 1978. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to undergraduate students in any year of the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The capital balance of the Meds 1963 Bursary Fund was $89,469 as of April 30, 2022. The capital balance was ranked 21 out of 42 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Since its inception, the Meds 1963 Bursary Fund has disbursed over $113,358 to 52 medical students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

The Meds 1964 Bev Lynn Memorial Bursary

Established in July 2011 by the Medicine Class of 1964 leading up to their 50th reunion in 2014 and in memory of classmates and Dr. R. Bev Lynn, Honorary Class President and former Professor of Surgery at Queen's. The Bursary is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to undergraduate students in any year of the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences, with preference given to students in their first year.

Meds'64 will participate in the full slate of events organized by the university. We have also arranged for a private class dinner for the class:

The Meds ’65 Memorial Bursary

Established by the Medicine Class of 1965 in November 1996 in memory of deceased classmates. The bursary is awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The capital balance of the Meds ’65 Memorial Bursary was $85,812 as of April 30, 2025. The capital balance was ranked 24th out of 43 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Since its inception, the Meds '65 Memorial Bursary has disbursed $42,430 to 29 medical students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

The Meds'68 Andrew and Margaret Bruce Bursary

Established in February 1997 by members of the Medicine Class of 1968 on the occasion of their 30th reunion and re-named in October 2018 in honour of Dr. Andrew Bruce, honorary class president, and his wife Mrs. Margaret Bruce. The Bursary is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to undergraduate students in any medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University.

The interim capital balance of the Meds'68 Andrew and Margaret Bruce Bursary is $192,853. With your help we could reach $200,000 and be able to help even more medical students! Since its inception, the Meds'68 Andrew and Margaret Bruce Bursary has disbursed $144,700 to 47 medical students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

As we celebrate our 55th reunion this fall, please join me in giving back to the next generation of medical professionals. The Meds ’72 Jack Milliken Bursary

Established by members of the Medicine Class of 1972 in recognition of their 25th reunion. The name of the bursary was amended on the occasion of their 30th reunion in memory of Jack Milliken, whose teaching and guidance inspired class members. Awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any medical year within the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University, who are residents of Ontario.

The capital balance of the Meds ’72 Jack Milliken Bursary was $64,122 as of April 30, 2022. The capital balance was ranked 27th out of 42 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Since its inception, the Meds ’72 Jack Milliken Bursary has disbursed $47,665 to 28 medical students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

Since early 2000 the class of 1973 has been avidly raising funds for the school of medicine. The class has established both the T.R. Sullivan Memorial Prize in Surgery and the Meds 1973 Bursary. Both funds are worthy initiatives to consider when making your philanthropic contributions.

The Meds 1973 Bursary

Established by members of the Medicine Class of 1973 in honour of their 30th reunion. Awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The capital balance of the Meds 1973 Bursary was $29,075 as of April 30, 2023. Since its inception, the Meds 1973 Bursary has disbursed over $16,245 to 17 medical students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

T.R. Sullivan Memorial Prize in Surgery

Established by former classmates in memory of Robin Sullivan, an orthopedic surgeon at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, it is an annual prize to be awarded to a final-year medical student attaining the greatest proficiency in Surgery.

The capital balance of the T.R. Sullivan Memorial Prize in Surgery was $32,644 as of April 30, 2023. Since its inception, the prize has awarded over $55,315 to 32 students.

The Meds '75 Bursary

The Medicine Class of 1975 established the Meds '75 Bursary on the occasion of their 25th reunion. The bursary is awarded on the basis of financial need to students in any medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The capital balance of the Meds '75 Bursary was $111,888 as of April 30, 2022. The capital balance was ranked 12th out of 42 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Since its inception, the Meds '75 Bursary has disbursed over $49,015 to 24 medical students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

Meds ’77 Ron Wigle Bursary

The Meds '77 Bursary was established by the Medicine Class of 1977 in November 2002 by members of the Class of Medicine 1977 on the occasion of their 25th reunion and re-named in September 2017 in memory of their honorary Class President, Dr. Ron Wigle, M.D. 1965. The bursary is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to undergraduate students in any medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University.

The capital balance of the Meds ’77 Ron Wigle Bursary was $73,013 as of April 30, 2022. The capital balance was ranked 24th out of 42 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Since its inception, the Meds ’77 Ron Wigle Bursary has disbursed over $32,045 to 20 medical students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

The Meds '78 Bursary

The Medicine Class of 1978 established the Meds '78 Bursary on the occasion of their 25th reunion to provide financial support to medical students with demonstrated financial need.

As of April 30, 2022, the Meds '78 Bursary had a capital value of $253,461 and was ranked 4th out of 42 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's.

Since its inception, over $129,385 has been given to 29 Queen's medical students who demonstrate financial need to support them in their studies.

The Meds '79 Bursary

The Medicine Class of 1979 established the Meds '79 Bursary in July 2004 to support students in any medical year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University, ensuring that no student is denied a Queen's Medical School education because of the costs associated with it. 

The Class of Medicine 1980 celebrated the naming of a seminar room in CHEER (Bracken Health Sciences Library) during their 30th reunion in 2010.

Following their 30th Reunion, the class launched a fundraising initiative to name a seminar room in the new Medical Building.

The new Medical Building brings together teaching, research, administrative and student facilities in one building; the facility is a hub for medical education, including small group teaching, simulation and integrated science labs.

The Meds'82 Dr. Al Kannegieter Memorial Fund

This fund was established by the Medicine Class of 1982 in memory of Al Kannegieter, M.D. 1982, to support worthy initiatives of Queen's University in furthering palliative care education and research of undergraduate and post-graduate students and practitioners of medicine, nursing or allied health care professions.

Al Kannegieter was a Queens's Meds 82 grad...a family physician...husband...father...son. His acts of kindness and compassion brought comfort and support to his patients and their loved ones, helping them through life’s most difficult times.

Sadly, his own passing in 1988 at age 32 occurred under the most trying and anguishing of circumstances. The Meds 82 Dr. Al Kannegieter Fund was created in 1991 by classmates, family, and friends, to honor his memory, and the dedicated and caring support he gave to his own patients.

This fund was created to provide health care professionals with educational opportunities in the area of palliative care, highlighting the special needs and treatment for patients and their loved ones.

The capital balance of the Meds ‘82 fund at the end of fiscal year 2023/24 sits around $108,200. 

The Meds 1984 Bursary

The Meds ’84 Bursary was established in May 2007 by members of the Medicine Class of 1984 and is awarded on the basis of financial need to undergraduate students in any year in the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The Meds 1985 Bursary

Established in October 2015 by the Medicine Class of 1985 in celebration of their 30th reunion. The Bursary is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to undergraduate students in any year of the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The capital balance of the Meds 1985 Bursary was $98,655 as of April 30, 2025. The capital balance was ranked 22nd out of 43 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

To date, the Meds 1985 Bursary has disbursed approx. $28,000 to 8 medical students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

The Meds 1987 Bursary

The Meds 1987 Bursary was established in April 2014 by the Medicine Class of 1987 following their 25th reunion in 2012. Awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to undergraduate students in any year of the School of Medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

The capital balance of the Meds 1987 Bursary was $94,893 as of April 30, 2022. The capital balance was ranked 16th out of 42 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Since its inception, the Meds 1987 Bursary has disbursed $17,900 to 6 medical students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

The Meds '88 Bursary

Established in September 2008 by the Medicine Class of 1988 and awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of the School of Medicine.

The capital balance of the Meds'88 Bursary was $223,297 as of April 30, 2022. The capital balance was ranked 5th out of 42 endowed class funds in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Since its inception, the Meds'88 Bursary has disbursed $74,805 to 15 students with demonstrated financial need at Queen's.

The interim capital balance of the Meds ‘92 Bursary was $57,690 as of April 30, 3023. The award was given out to its inaugural student this past year and is now helping students in financial need.
