The Commerce '48 Admission Award

Established by the Class of Commerce 1948. Awarded on the basis of financial need and academic excellence to students entering the first year of the Bachelor of Commerce program in the Smith School of Business. The award is renewable for 3 subsequent years provided a minimum GPA of 2.7 is maintained each year and financial need remains evident.

Tuition has drastically increased and is now over $17,000 in the first year of the Commerce program. Affordable education is essential to ensure all prospective students have access to the Queen's education, experiences, friendships and community. Your gift will make the difference between a student choosing Queen's or not.

A reunion is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with classmates and celebrate your time at Queen's. Increasingly, classes are celebrating their milestone reunions by campaigning for a class gift.

Queen's Commerce Bursary Fund

With almost 30% of Commerce students qualifying for needs-based financial aid each year, and with tuition now over $17,000, student financial assistance is a top priority for Smith School of Business. We need to ensure that exceptional students may attend Queen’s Commerce regardless of their ability to pay.

The Arts and Science Dean's Student Initiative Fund 

The Arts and Science faculty balances formal and interactive educational approaches, encouraging experiential learning – going beyond the classroom to learn and discover. The fund will support one-of-a-kind opportunities close to home and around the world, such as ASUS camps, the Queen’s Canadian Leadership Conference, and the Queen’s Health Outreach program in Guyana. 

Athletic Awards 

Queen’s aims to be the destination of choice for top-performing student-athletes. However, attracting and keeping the very best student-athletes is challenging in this fiercely competitive post-secondary environment. We want more of Canada’s best to choose Queen’s because of our leading academic and athletic reputation, high-caliber coaches and award winning athletic facilities and support services. But, for many outstanding candidates, an offer of an Athletic Award is the key deciding factor.

Celebrate our 60th Reunion with a display of generosity! Join us in supporting the Arts, Com, PHE & NSc’64 Reunion Giving Campaign, where we're spotlighting four vital funds. These funds uplift and enrich the vibrant student experience at Queen’s:

1. BCom '64 Endowment Fund: Commerce 1964 established this fund to empower the Dean of the Smith School of Business with funding flexibility. From faculty support to research endeavors, your donation provides vital flexibility for growth and innovation.
2. Arts & Science Dean’s Student Initiatives Fund: This fund assists in providing Artsci students the opportunity to dive into experiential learning beyond the confines of the classroom. Your contribution will fuel unique opportunities like ASUS camps, The Queen’s Canadian Leadership Conference, and The Queen’s Health Outreach program in Guyana.
3. Revved Up Lab Trust Fund: Support the transformative work of the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies. Your contribution fuels the Revved Up Lab program, empowering individuals with disabilities through tailored aerobic and strength training programs.
4. School of Nursing 75th Anniversary Bursary: Established in recognition of the 75th anniversary of the School of Nursing, this bursary is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students in any year of a Bachelor of Nursing Science degree program in the Faculty of Health Sciences. By contributing to this bursary, we can help alleviate the financial burdens faced by deserving nursing students.

Commerce 1967

A new tradition amongst Commerce classes is giving back through a class campaign.  Understanding their class size is small, they feel it's still important to make a commitment through an annual gift to the Dean’s Innovation Fund. Last year, the Com’66 class raised $25,000 in support of the School of Business and the class would like to beat that in honour of their 50^th!! 

Another option to celebrate their 50th Reunion is to make a planned gift. Through planned giving, one can achieve philanthropic objectives while minimizing tax implications and maximizing other financial benefits. The Dean's Innovation Fund provides a flexible fund that supports the foundation for our program. The fund has provided the seed capital to pilot important initiatives like the Corporate Social Responsibility Weekend & the Commerce Entrance Scholarships.

Commerce 1972

The Class of Commerce 1972 will be rallying together to increase amount of their Commerce '72 Award. The Commerce '72 Award enables Commerce students to fully participate in the program, which may include a period of study abroad. 

Smith School of Business maintains student exchange partnerships with over 100 top business schools in 38 countries around the world. Optional student exchanges are offered in our Bachelor of Commerce program (where over 80% of our students elect to go on an international exchange.) 

The key barrier for both undergraduate and graduate student exchange is financing. Over 30% of Commerce students apply for financial aid each year. We need your help to ensure all students can embark on this life-changing experience.

In recognition of our 50th Reunion, and in memory of the classmates we've lost, Com'73 will be engaging in a 50 for 50 Reunion Campaign. We will be focusing on supporting The Commerce Bursary Fund, with the goal of raising $50,000 by our 50th Reunion. Our gift will commemorate this milestone and recognize the positive impact that our Queen's education has had on our lives. By contributing as a group to the Commerce Student Bursary Fund we can also ensure that future generations benefit from the same advantage that we gained at Queen's. This fund was established to assist Smith School of Business to provide bursary funding to eligible students. A gift to Smith School of Business’ Commerce Bursary Fund is a pledge that Smith will always welcome exceptional students regardless of financial circumstance. 

The Commerce 1974 Exchange Bursary is awarded based on demonstrated financial need, to domestic students at Smith Business who require assistance to participate in international exchange. International exchange for domestic students provides them with a unique opportunity to:

• Enhance their networking skills and widen their global network
• Deepen their understanding of cross-cultural communications and strengthen their cultural intelligence
• Gain an international perspective on business to be a successful global manager
• Experience the education system in another country at one of our prestigious partner schools

Our Friday night event is a meet and greet on the Main Level at Grizzly Grill, in a private adjoining room “The Lodge”. Appetizers to include Wings, Cheese Plates, Veggie Plates, Chicken Skewers, Dips, Fruit Plate. 
Cost:  $30 (covers room rental, appetizers, taxes and gratuities). Beverages are not included but are available for purchase separately at the bar. Additional food (dinner) can also be ordered off the menu.

Meet and mingle as you dine with an assortment of supper items available via buffet and passed platters. 
Register and pay for this event when you register for the weekend. Price includes admission to the dance. Beverages not included.  Additional items may be ordered from the menu; however, you must be seated at a table in order to do so.

Band / Dancing at BLU Martini
9 pm - Close 
Join all '83 disciplines at the main event featuring the Bromantics from Montreal.  Band Members include our very own Com'83 Jake Chadwick! (and we have heard from classmates who have heard them play that they are really good!)

In support of Jack.org, the main event of the weekend is the band/dance at BLU Martini. Not only will it be a night of fun listening to our favourite tunes from the 80's but we will be contributing to a very worthy cause supporting youth mental health - Jack.org 

Note:  If you attend the BLU Martini dinner, the cost of the band is included.

Although '83 faculties have first dibs on band tickets, the venue holds 400 people and doors will be open to the public if we don't sell out! So feel free to invite family and friends.

For our 15-year reunion, thanks to your generosity, our Class was able to raise over $20,000 for the Com’02 Leadership Entrance Award, bringing the total endowment size to over $55,000. While our experience with the Shoe Game would have taught us that we should have rolled these funds into a massive celebrity endorsement, we have instead prudently paid out the earnings from this endowment to 13 deserving first-year students since our 5 Year Reunion. This year, we have set a goal of $40,000 for our 20-Year Class Gift and we need your support to make it happen. Please make your gift or pledge online today.

• A mixer social at the Merchant Tavern co-hosted by Sc'04 and Com'04

Saturday, October 19

• Celebrate Community with Smith School of Business in Goodes Hall (take our class photo)
• Com'04 Keg Party – drinks, food, and fun (1 pm start time and is taking place at the same time as the football game)
• Evening sit-down fully catered dinner on campus followed by drinks and dancing in the Hub

All remaining funds collected for Homecoming will be donated to the Rick Jackson Scholarship. This Scholarship was established in honour of a wonderful professor, who had a direct impact on Commerce students and on many of us. It is awarded to third-year students of the Commerce program at Smith, who will be participating in the Queen’s bi-lateral exchange.

The Football Game

After polling some Com'04s, we decided not to include the football game in the ticket. If you are interested in attending the Football game, the game is from 1 pm to 4 pm at Richardson Stadium - Queen's Gaels vs Waterloo Warriors. Tickets are being sold through the Homecoming registration.
