One to Watch Award

This award recognizes recent Queen’s alumni, normally not more than 10 years out from either an undergraduate or graduate program who is making significant contributions in their field of endeavour, setting an example for future Queen’s alumni to follow.

Award Eligibility & Criteria

Candidates should be:

  • A Queen’s alumnus/alumna who graduated less than 10 years ago
  • Someone who has accomplished early success in one or more fields of endeavor which augurs well for future leadership and accomplishment
  • An inspiration to the Queen’s community

Curtis Carmichael

Curtis Carmichael is an award-winning author, professional speaker, STEM and STEAM education futurist, and certified K-12 STEM teacher. He is also a social entrepreneur focused on the intersections of design thinking, STEM education equity, and the future of education and work. As the founder and CEO of Source Code Academy Canada, Curtis has built a strong global reputation as a dedicated advocate for ensuring communities — especially marginalized and underserved groups — have more opportunities to obtain the financial, entrepreneurial, STEM, and STEAM education skills required to thrive in the digital and global innovation economy. In 2021, Curtis founded Source Code Academy Canada, Canada’s first culture-focused STEM and STEAM futurist academy that prepares underestimated children and youth for the future of work. Source Code Academy strives to democratize access to technology, STEAM education, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship programming for those in poverty, with a holistic focus on the creative arts, mental health, literacy, fitness, food security, social-emotional learning, and social justice.
