Join award-winning researcher and atrophysicist, Victoria Kaspi, for her presentation "The Fast Radio Cosmos", the next installment of the Ewan Memorial Lecture. This free, public talk will focus on her team's investigation of mysterious fast radio bursts (FRBs), which have been described as brief, intense blasts of radio waves coming from far outside of the Milky Way galaxy. Dr. Kaspi will decode these events and introduce an innovative new radio telescope that is allowing astronomers to understand the phenomena.
About the speaker
A professor at McGill University, Dr. Kaspi is also the principal investigator of the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment fast radio burst team. In 2016, she was awarded the Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering, the highest honour in the Canadian science community. In 2019, she was acknowledged by Nature magazine as one of Nature’s 10, which recognizes 10 individuals that have "mattered in science" during that year.

The George and Maureen Ewan Lecture series was created to support seminar and lecture programs that are designed to increase accessible scientific discussion within the Queen’s astrophysics community and beyond. The series is hosted by the McDonald Institute.
