The 2026 André Biéler Lecture: Art, Ecology and Responsive Environments

Queen’s University Fine Art Alumni Council (QFAC), the Department of Art History and Art Conservation and the Fine Art/Visual Arts program are pleased to present the 2026 André Biéler Lecture: Art, ecology and responsive environments. 

This year we are thrilled two welcome two internationally acclaimed artists, and Queen’s graduates, Marlene Creates, BAE'74 and Philip Beesley, BFA'78, “whose practices offer two distinct yet complementary approaches to urgent contemporary questions surrounding environment, technology, and human experience”.

Meet the speakers

Marlene Creates, BAE'74 

An environmental artist whose work explores the relationship between human experience, memory, language and the land, and the impact they have on each other. Learn more about the artist.

Philip Beesley, BFA'78

 A pioneer of immersive, responsive environments who has redefined contemporary art through living interactive systems. He leads the Living Architecture Systems Group, an internationally recognized research network. Learn more about the artist.

What to expect

Please note that the artist talk will be recorded to be shared at a later date, and photos will be taken to commemorate the event. 

The lecture is part of a multi-day Public Art program including ARTV NOW—selected works from Queen's University visual arts courses, a student art exhibition running September 27 – October 4, 2026.  See the show in the Art & Media Lab, Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts.
