Discover the Agnes Etherington Art Centre's (Agnes) extensive collection of art over Homecoming weekend. Agnes is a curatorially driven and research-intensive professional art centre that proudly serves a dual mandate as a leading, internationally recognized public art gallery, and as an active pedagogical resource at Queen’s. By commissioning, researching, collecting, and preserving works of art and by exhibiting and interpreting visual culture through an intersectional lens, Agnes creates opportunities for participation and exchange across communities, cultures, histories and geographies. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
Exhibitions
Visit the Agnes website for a full listing of exhibits and offerings.
- Transformations: This site-specific commission transforms the exterior façades of Agnes’s current facility and is the first-ever in-situ graffiti project.
- Mmaandaawaabi (see a wondrous sight): Using your phone, enjoy sculpturally immersive worlds with Augmented Reality (AR) to view and engage with artworks reflecting on an Indigenous perspective on land, cosmology, and contemporary realities.
- Emergence: A Recent Gift of Indigenous Art: Emergence highlights important early and mid-career works of art by contemporary Indigenous artists from across Turtle Island, North and South. As a collection, these works provide a cohesive vision of the approaches and concerns of artists working in the 1970s.
- Art, Life, Legacy: Northern European Paintings in the Collection of Isabel and Alfred Bader: Organized in part around key themes drawn from Alfred Bader’s life story, including generosity, sacrifice, struggle, family, and faith, the exhibition also spotlights current scholarship on topics such as the Dutch role in colonial expansion and identity in the Dutch Republic.
