The City of Kingston and Kingston Police remind new and returning post-secondary school community members to stay safe during their move-in and orientation activities.

“Kingston Police recognizes that students, especially incoming first year students, are excited to take in the full post-secondary experience. We are here for you, and we strive to ensure that the safety of everyone in our community remains our paramount objective,” says Kingston Police Staff Sergeant Carla Stacey.

“The safety of the community is our number one priority. The University District Safety Initiative provides us with an opportunity to work with our partners to educate students and property owners on the risks of large gatherings,” says City of Kingston Licensing and Enforcement Manager Kyle Compeau.

In effect until Sept. 10 at 12 p.m., the UDSI supports community safety and mitigates risk associated with large gatherings. The City can also issue Administrative Monetary Penalties (AMPs) for Nuisance Party and Noise Bylaws infractions.

Community members are encouraged to learn more about the municipal measures in place to discourage unsanctioned large gatherings and high-risk or disruptive behaviours by reading the Good Neighbour Guide: a Guide to the City of Kingston Bylaws. Staff from both Bylaw Enforcement and Kingston Police will be in the community in the coming days sharing information about the USDI and answering resident questions.

Maintaining the safety of those living in our community is the City’s paramount objective. Together, let’s ensure that these final weeks of summer are enjoyed safely and responsibly.
