Queen’s University administrators and researchers — Jane Philpott, Kieran Moore, Doug Munoz, and John Muscedere — have been elected to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences Fellowship, one of Canada’s premier academic honours.
Four Queen’s researchers have been elected to the Royal Society of Canada , one of the highest academic honours for Canadian scholars in arts, humanities, and sciences. Professor emeritus John Berry has received the honour of Fellowship, while professors Heather Castleden, Karen Lawford, and Sari van Anders have been elected to the College of New Scholars, Scientists and Artists. This diverse group has research specialties ranging from Indigenous health policy, cross-cultural psychology, and gender/sex research to community and participatory-based research with Indigenous communities.
Dr. Michael Strong, President of the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, visited Queen’s virtually on October 5 to meet with the Principal, Vice-Principal Research, and a selected group of researchers to discuss Queen’s priorities and to share their own.
The Vice-Principal Research portfolio hosted guests from Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS); Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED); and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) on October 13 for a virtual discussion on Improving the security of Canadian research investments. The 90-minute presentation and discussion was open to all researchers at Queen’s.

October 13, Vice-Principal Research, Nancy Ross, hosted a virtual Town Hall for members of the Queen’s research community. She discussed the importance of applying to Tri-Council funding; central support early career researchers; alignment of Centres and Institutes to reflect our priorities and strengths; and building and strengthening our research partnerships.

The WE-CAN Virtual Cafe series consists of engaging online discussions designed to share thoughts, ideas, tools and solutions as we build a positive community of women entrepreneurs in the greater Kingston region and beyond.
