Extension Request Details
April 6, 2020
[Note, the following e-mail was sent to PIs holding an active CIHR operating grant.]
Hello,
You are receiving this email because you have been identified as a Principal Investigator holding an active CIHR operating grant. Given the extenuating circumstances in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, CIHR recently announced that all active grants will receive an automatic one-year extension to the authority-to-use funds date, to allow researchers to use any residual funds not yet spent.
Therefore, Research Accounting will be updating your Project Spending Deadline (PSD) by adding 12 months to the current PSD. This should be reflected in FAST within the next few days and will be handled outside of the TRAQ system.
Please note: This communication does not refer to CIHR subgrants, led by another organization. If an extension is required for a subgrant, Queen’s Principal Investigators must contact the lead PI at that organization to request an amended transfer letter, per the usual process. Until that time, subgrants will continue to be inactivated as scheduled, once they reach their PSD.
Additionally, the CIHR update regarding automatic extensions refers to operating grants only (these typically reside in the 394xxx project range). To date, there has been no change communicated regarding PSDs for CIHR awards (these typically reside in the 398xxx project range). CIHR awards will continue to be inactivated, once they reach their PSD.
CIHR will be reaching out directly to grant holders who may be eligible for additional funding.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact research.accounting@queensu.ca.
We appreciate your patience as we work through this process.
Thank you.
