Faculty of Arts and Science: All Classes

This fund was established by members of the Arts and Science Class of 1967 who wanted to make a positive difference in the lives of first year students at Queen's. The bursary will be awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need to students entering the first year of any first entry undergraduate degree program in the Faculty of Arts and Science. This assistance will help recipients focus more on their studies and help them reach their academic and life goals.

Arts'72 Reunion 2022 Highlights

A great time was had by more than 50 Arts '72 classmates and their partners, in celebrating our 50th Class Reunion as part of the October 2022 Queen's Homecoming.  Having reached this milestone, we were inducted into the Queen's Tricolour Guard.

As a service to 50+ classes, Queen's Homecoming organizers secured hotel accommodation at selected downtown hotels and made these rooms available to interested Arts '72 class members. 

Once again Arts '72 and Applied Science '72 organized an off-campus Friday Pub Night event.  The venue was the Supper Club in the historic Renaissance at 285 Queen Street, Kingston.  The upper-level Supper Club offered a perfect casual setting with high ceilings, upholstered benches and tables, and a 30-foot bar.  In addition to a Cash Bar, light food hors d’oeuvres were served, allowing 160 attendees from the two classes to circulate, mix and catch up with old friends and make new ones.   It was a perfect kick-off event for the weekend. 

On Saturday morning those who could make it, gathered outside Grant Hall for an Arts '72 class photo.  The timing was perfect as this was immediately before the Queen's Bands parade leading spectators out to West Campus for a playoff football game at Richardson Stadium.  Having reached the 50th Reunion mark, all the 1972 classes were invited to parade around the stadium as part of the half-time festivities on what was a beautiful, sunny, warm fall day.  Ah, to feel young again!  The Golden Gaels won the game against U of T, giving us plenty of opportunities to do an Oil Thigh!  Queen's continued their playoff run to a Yates Cup game, which sadly was won by Western.  The football Gaels had a great 2022 season.

Because we were celebrating our 50th Reunion, the class of Arts '72 was invited to attend the Tricolour Guard Reception and Dinner on Saturday evening.  Over 40 well attired class members and partners first assembled in Grant Hall for a mix and mingle pre-dinner cocktail event, culminating in a Queen's Band performance.  Attendees were then piped over to the large banquet venue at Ban Righ, where we enjoyed a beautifully presented and delicious meal.  A highlight of the evening was an overview of what was happening in our lives at Queen's and around the world during the 1968-72 era.  The whole evening was a wonderful walk down memory lane with old friends.

To celebrate our 50th Reunion in 2022, our class launched a "50 for 50" Appeal to grow our Arts '72 Bursary to $50,000 in investment capital by the time we returned for Homecoming in October.  Interest and momentum towards building the fund continued over the weekend and by the end of the Tricolour Guard Dinner, we knew that we were "over the 50"!  The generosity shown was a very meaningful way to celebrate the success afforded us by our years as students at Queen's.  Our enlarged bursary will now provide even more financial help to current students at Queen's to help them achieve their dreams. 

Our Reunion at Homecoming 2022 was enjoyed by all who participated.  We look forward to meeting again at our 55th in 2027!

The Arts and Science International Fund:

Each year, Arts and Science students experience the world through 165 programs in more than 40 countries. Your gift will enable Queen's to expand the offering of these travel-oriented courses and empower more Arts and Science students to embark on life-changing international experiences.

The Dean’s Student Initiatives Fund:

The Faculty of Arts and Science balances formal and interactive educational approaches, encouraging experiential learning – going beyond the classroom to learn and discover. This fund supports one-of-a-kind opportunities close to home and around the world, such as:

• ASUS camps
• The Queen’s Canadian Leadership Conference
• The Queen’s Health Outreach program in Guyana

Faculty of Arts and Science Equity, Diversity, Inclusivity, and Indigenization Fund:

The Faculty of Arts and Science is a scholarly community committed to truth and reconciliation, freedom of inquiry and expression, and the equality and dignity of all persons. Your support of this fund will help to develop programs such as:

• The Ka’tarokwi Festival of Indigenous Arts
• Pre-Doctoral Fellowships for Indigenous students 
• Bachelor of Arts minor in Black Studies 
• Bachelor of Arts major/medial/minor in Indigenous Studies

The Artsci’78 Bursary is awarded on the basis of financial need to 2nd, 3rd or 4th year students registered in any program in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Our award alleviates some of the financial pressure on students as they navigate their time at Queen’s, allowing them to more fully focus on their university experience. The generosity of the class has positively impacted the lives of close to 30 students so far. Our goal is to grow the fund, which in turn will give us the ability to help more students at deeper level. Please donate today.

In recognition of the 45th Anniversary of our graduation from Queen’s, we encourage you to contribute to The Arts and Science 1979 Bursary. The bursary from our class fund is awarded to an upper year student in the Faculty of Arts and Science on the basis of demonstrated financial need, and is needed by students more than ever.

Tuition fees plus the cost of living, makes staying in school a difficult prospect for a lot of students. We can help make someone’s year a little easier. By contributing to our class fund you are helping it grow, which means we’ll be able to assist many more students in the future.

• Research and Sustainability come together as Queen’s researchers and facilities take on the world’s grand challenges (like climate change) – through discoveries in Chemistry and Physics to hands-on state-of-the-art field research at the Queen’s University Biological Station. Undergraduate research is also a huge focus as we provide students with the opportunity to become problem solvers and inspire the next generation of award-winning Faculty.
• Global Impact and Innovation is a priority that changes how we look at Queen’s campus. The importance of providing undergraduate and graduate students not only with opportunities for international learning and experiences but also expanding on the concept of a global campus – bringing the world to campus through integrated teaching.

Our 40th Reunion will take place September 20-22, 2024!

Unfortunately, Artsci'89 is currently without a Reunion Planning Committee, which means personal, class-specific events aren't being planned at this time.

You could plan something big or small - some past reunion events have included backyard BBQs, bowling, intimate dinners, walks along the lake, even a pickleball tournament!

Hello Artsci'93! We've been busy planning events for just our classmates and guests, as well as events that will bring us together with members of our year from other faculties.  Check out the Homecoming schedule for details - we'll continue to add event and registration information as plans are finalized.

Now is a very timely opportunity to reevaluate our commitment and support to improving access to education to future Queen’s students. The Black Lives Matter protests happening around the world have also sparked critical conversations at the University. As alumni, we can play an important role in removing financial barriers and investing in more diverse student experience. Proudly established in 1997 by the class of ’93, our award supports students in financial need who self identify as First Nations, Metis, Inuit, or as members of the African and Caribbean Student Association.

Tuition and Fees are based on 2019-20 schedules were approximately $7,305. The cost of tuition plus living expenses is a very intimidating prospect for many students. Some feel that they cannot accept their offers to come to Queen’s because of these reasons. Sadly, this could be a missed opportunity for the entire Queen’s community to benefit from a wide range of cultures, lived experiences, and opinions that lead to a truly enriching learning environment. Please consider donating, to transform the lives of these students.

We established the Class of '94 Single Parent Undergraduate Bursary from donations made over the first three years following our graduation from Queen's. Since its inception, our donations have had a significant impact in the lives of students, easing some of the financial worries single parents often face as they work towards their degrees.

The Arts and Science'98 Award is granted on the basis of financial need and extra-curricular activities to a full-time student in any year in the Faculty of Arts and Science. In 1998, tuition for a full time domestic student in Arts and Science was $3,747.02. Tuition fees for domestic Artsci students in 2016/17 were $7,714. This, plus the cost of living makes attending university unattainable to many.

In recognition of our 20th Reunion, please consider contributing to our class fund - the more we grow it, the more we'll be able to give to help support students today.

Since its inception, Queen’s has been able to award our bursary fifteen times! That's fifteen times lives have been positively impacted because of our collective generosity!

Our award isn't just about the numbers – it's about making a REAL difference in the lives of current students. We encourage all Artsci’08 alumni to give to the Dean’s Student Initiative Fund in recognition of the 10th Anniversary of our graduation from Queen’s. This fund was established to provide modest grants to undergraduates in the Faculty of Arts and Science to enable them to participate in projects that will provide educational opportunities outside the classroom. Past grants have gone towards various projects, including:

• Support for the upcoming International Genetically Engineered Machine competition
• Contributing to Student's registration fees to UA Global Summit conference held in Ireland
• The Queen's Project on International Development (QPID) to fund student projects
• Contributing to the 2018 Canadian Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CCUWiP)
• Funding towards FAS student flights for a Pre-Med Fellowship abroad (Atlantis Fellowships) in Rome
• Funding to the Arts and Science Undergraduate Society Research Fund

AMS Food Bank

The AMS Food Bank provides confidential and non-judgmental food options to members of the Queen’s community in the most comfortable environment possible. The Food Bank helps to ensure that Queen’s students can be healthy and productive as they pursue academic achievement and alleviates poverty amongst Queen’s community members. Donations of any non-perishable goods, hygiene products and baby products will be accepted by volunteers during operating hours.

In recognition of the 10 years since our graduation, Artsci’12 is championing the Faculty of Arts and Science Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Indigeneity Fund. This new fund is incredibly important. Our contributions will help to develop programs such as those listed below, as well as attract and retain under-represented individuals and groups as students, guest speakers, and faculty members for these programs and more.

What makes me excited about this giving opportunity is this is a new fund that will allow the Class of 2012 to give back in a way other Classes have not been able to in the past! We all know the importance of equity, diversity, inclusion and indigeneity and allowing our class to put our money behind it will enhance not only the faculty of Arts & Science but the university as a whole! -Nausheen Sadiq

Our goal, when choosing a fund to champion, was to select something that focused on supporting students who require financial assistance, who also belong to a group that has traditionally been underrepresented at Queen's. The Principal Wallace Freedom of Opportunity Fund provides this type of support to International Students, specifically refugee students or students from developing countries.

In recognition of our 5th Reunion, we encourage all Artsci'13 alumni to support the this fund. Imagine the difference our contributions could make in the lives of current and future Queen's students!
