Honouring a Legacy of Giving

How do you show your appreciation for a family whose impact on Queen’s and the world has been nothing short of transformational? When it comes to the Bader family, a simple celebration just is not enough. That is why Queen’s is spending most of this autumn celebrating the contributions of Alfred Bader, BSc’45, BA’46, MSc’47, LLD’86, Isabel Bader, LLD’07, and their family foundation, Bader Philanthropies, Inc

Bader Celebrations will share stories of the Baders’ decades of philanthropy to ensure everyone knows and understands the impact of their generosity – on Queen’s, on the people who live and work here, on the Kingston community, and on the world.

Bader Celebrations will take place from September through November and highlight the impact the Bader family has had on Queen’s University. The Baders’ contributions have resulted in a range of programs and facilities that benefit Queen’s students and the Kingston community, including the donation of a 15th-century castle in East Sussex, England, which is now home to the Bader International Study Centre, the spectacular Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, and hundreds of pieces of art, including the most comprehensive collection of authenticated Rembrandt paintings, which are now in the collections of the Agnes Etherington Art Centre. The Baders have also funded student awards, teaching and research chairs, curatorships and more.

Bader Celebrations will include Isabel Bader’s 95th birthday on Nov. 1, and the 80th anniversary of Alfred Bader’s arrival on campus on November 15 (also appropriately, National Philanthropy Day.) Celebration highlights will include videos, social media messages, stories of impact, a new plaque honouring Bader Philanthropies, Inc., and Bader Day, an entire day dedicated to celebrating the Baders.

We encourage you to follow us on our social channels (FacebookTwitter and Instagram) to stay up to date on all things #BaderCelebrations and to share how the Baders’ philanthropy has impacted your time at Queen’s. To share your story of impact with the Bader family, please email our team
