Critical for Success

Tom Woodhall, Sc'05, Artsci'06, MSc'08,
Queen’s University Council Member

Attending Queen's has played a formative role in my life and career. Most of my friends today were people that I met through Queen's, many from working at Clark Hall Pub or through the Engineering Society. In fact, although we didn't date until after university, my wife and I met at Queen's. My education (both in engineering and in arts) was critical for success in my current career, which involves lots of complex problem-solving and communication, both skills I was able to hone during my time at Queen’s. I am still with the company I joined after graduate school; they were impressed by my Queen's experiences. Now they may regret it every time I mention a Golden Gaels victory over someone else's alma mater!

As a first-generation post-secondary student, bursaries were an important part of being able to attend Queen's. I hope that by giving back to the same bursaries that I received, I'm able to help more students achieve their dreams of higher education. I believe that alumni can play an important role in giving students financial access to a Queen's education.
