Martyna Hoffman is a sociologist and PhD student at Nicolaus Copernicus University. Her research focuses on voting accessibility. She runs a research project "On the edge of democracy? Active suffrage practices of people in a situation of homelessness", funded by the Polish National Science Center. She collaborates with Political Accountability Foundation (Fundacja Odpowiedzialna Polityka) - a Polish NGO specialising in election observation

She completed her MA and BA in Sociology at Nicolaus Copernicus University.

Cross Smalley is a Graduate Research Assistant for the Institute of Intergovernmental Relations at Queens University and is currently pursuing his MA in Public Administration at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario. His research has focused on jurisdictional considerations, organizational performance and cybersecurity concerns during the Covid-19 Pandemic in Canada.

Cross has recently completed a group research project in collaboration with HC2P, the University of Montreal and associate partners who were seeking insight into the Canadian policy landscape for digital twin technologies. He has also been participating in a clinical setting at Southlake Regional Health Centers’ Covid-19 Assessment Center in Newmarket Ontario.

He completed his BA in Philosophy with a specialization in Applied Ethics (2020) from Trent University.

Alexandra Green is pursuing a PhD in War Studies at the Royal Military College of Canada. Her anticipated thesis topic is in cyber terrorism. Alexandra is also a graduate of Carleton University’s Masters of Infrastructure Protection and International Security (IPIS) Program where she was awarded a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) grant to fund her research into target selection and extremism. During her undergraduate at Queen’s University she was awarded an undergraduate fellowship, the John Rae award, the Women in Defence and Security Scholarship, the Chancellor’s Scholarship, and was placed on the Dean’s List with Distinction. She has been engaged in research projects on: border security, terrorist resourcing, countering violent extremism, policing, and critical infrastructure. She has been published in the Journal of Money Laundering Control and in the SERENE-RISC digest.

Toby S. James is Professor of Politics and Public Policy at the University of East Anglia in the UK and fellow with the Queen’s Institute for Intergovernmental Relations (IIGR).  He is also the co-Director of the Electoral Integrity Project and Editor in Chief of the journal Policy Studies. 

His research focuses on concepts of democracy, electoral integrity and applied policy solutions to improving the quality of elections.   He work also covers politics, political leadership the policy making process more generally.   

He is the author or co-editor of eight books, including: Comparative Electoral Management (Routledge, 2020), The Trump Administration(Routledge, 2022) and Elections During Emergencies and Crises: Lessons for Electoral Integrity from the Covid-19 Pandemic (International IDEA, 2023)

Toby has written commissioned policy reports for national and international organisations, and collaborated with organisations such as International IDEA, Venice Commission, IFES, the Carter Center, Westminster Foundation for Democracy and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.  He has regularly given invited evidence to many Parliamentary committees.  His research has been externally funded by the British Academy, Leverhulme Trust, AHRC, ESRC, Nuffield Foundation, SSHRC, Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust and the McDougall Trust.

Jordan is a 2023 Queen’s graduate in Political Studies and Psychology. She has been working for the Institute of Intergovernmental Relations since January of 202, where her core research area is women in transnational crime, for which she is currently writing a paper. Outside of transnational crime, she is passionate about a broad range of topics including topics of international relations, political psychology, international law and education. Outside of her work, Jordan spends most of her time travelling.
