What is SOAR?
SOAR is our annual Summer Orientation to Academics and Resources. This year, SOAR is online and includes live and recorded events, as well as activities you can do at your own pace. There is core content for all first-year students, and faculty/school-specific content. SOAR will run on OnQ – the platform that many students at Queen’s use for their academic courses. Through SOAR, you will learn about all of the services and resources available at Queen’s, meet your peers, and prepare for a successful transition to your first year of university.

When is SOAR?
SOAR will launch on July 12th and run until July 23rd, but you can access the content all summer and into the fall.

How do I attend SOAR?
You will be automatically enrolled in your faculty/school’s SOAR “course” in OnQ. You will have access to all SOAR modules beginning July 12th, and we encourage you to sign up for online events, including webinars and sessions where you can meet your classmates and upper-year students.

Is SOAR mandatory?
We strongly recommend that you attend live events and work through the modules at your own pace. The goal of SOAR programming is to ease both your academic and social transitions to Queen’s and set you up for success!

Do I have to register or pay for SOAR?
SOAR is free! You will be automatically registered in your faculty/school’s SOAR OnQ course, however you may be required to register for some of the online live events.

Will I be able to meet other incoming students and people in my program?
Yes! There will be a variety of online student sessions where you can meet and connect with other incoming students in your program, incoming students in other programs, and upper year students who can serve as your mentors throughout your time at Queen’s.

I haven’t accessed my Queen’s email yet. How do I get access to SOAR?
To access SOAR on OnQ, you have to activate your Queen’s email. If you have not already done so, check Step #2 on the Home page to find out how.

I logged in to OnQ, but I can’t see my SOAR course
If you log in to OnQ after July 12 but are unable to see your SOAR course, please email student.experience@queensu.ca with your NetID and faculty/school and we will make sure you are enrolled.

I am a parent/supporter of an incoming student. Are there resources available for me?
