Professor Rahul Kumar was interviewed on the radio programme and podcast, Philosophy Talk, about what we owe future generations. Is it possible to have obligations to people who are not yet born? Can people who do not exist be said to have rights that we should respect? And if they do, what do we do if our rights and theirs conflict?
PhD student Michael Tremblay was interviewed on Ideas on CBC radio. Ideas is focusing on some interesting Canadian PhD students, and were keen to interview Michael both for his research on the Stoics and for his impressive achievements on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Michael explicitly connects the two: "Epictetus says explicitly that philosophy is like wrestling." As for philosophers, wrestlers improve by continually challenging themselves, and confronting strong opponents.
Into the Coast is a series of interviews with academic philosophers, inspired by past philosophical series, such as Michael Chanan's Logic Lane. In the past year, two Queen's University philosophers have been interviewed: Christine Sypnowich and Henry Laycock.
David Bakhurst was nominated for the Frank Knox Teaching Award for his PHIL 250 (Epistemology and Metaphysics) course. The Frank Knox Teaching Award is the highest honour that the Alma Mater Society bestows upon faculty in the Queen’s Community.

Paul Fairfield's new book, co-authored by Jeff Mitscherling, has just been published by Lexington (an imprint of Rowman and Littlefield). The book is titled Artistic Creation: A Phenomenological Account.

Professor Jackie Duffin, Hannah Chair in the History of Medicine at Queen’s from 1988 to 2017, has been inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame. Jackie, who is cross-appointed to Philosophy, has combined her training as a physician and historian to engage ground-breaking and infectious historical research.
Queen’s University recently awarded its highest research honour to Professor Ram Murty, cross-appointed between Mathematics and Philosophy. Recipients of this honour are internationally recognized for contributions to their respective fields of study.
