PhD candidate Ali Bhagat appointed as Lecturer at the University of Manchester

Ali Bhagat, a PhD candidate in the Department of Political Studies, has been appointed as a Lecturer in International Relations and International Politics at the University of Manchester beginning September 2019. Ali studies forced displacement, inter-scalar governance, race and racism, housing, urban refugees, urban governance, neoliberalism, and gender and sexuality. His dissertation project compares urban forced migration in Paris and Nairobi and examines issues of race, class, and labour in social (public) and private (informal) rental housing arrangements in the two cities.

"I am thrilled to have received this offer as the University of Manchester is a highly-ranked research hub in Political Economy and Critical Global Politics,” says Ali. "It is the perfect institution for me to flourish as a scholar and allows me to forge global linkages with leading academics in my field. My training at Queen's in IR and IPE, in addition to the tremendous guidance provided by my supervisor throughout my doctoral studies, has made me well suited to take on this role."

Congratulations Ali!
