Vice-Principal Research portfolio seeks internal applications for the Chair of the General Research Ethics Board (GREB)

The Chair is responsible for ensuring that the research ethics board acts by all applicable regulations, guidelines and policies governing research ethics boards. The GREB Chair works closely with Ethics Office staff and GREB members to review, propose modifications to, approve, reject, suspend or terminate any proposed or ongoing research involving human participants. The Chair ensures integrity and confidentiality in the ethics review process. The application deadline is Friday, November 4, 2022, at 4:00 pm.

Funding to enable innovative research

The Government of Canada, through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), has announced $64 million in funding to support research infrastructure through the John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF). Five projects at Queen’s will receive close to $700,000 to advance innovative research projects that will have an impact on human health, communications technologies, and renewable materials.

The workshops: How to write for The Conversation

On October 20, two hands-on workshops will be held with The Conversation Canada, to help researchers think about what makes a good article, how to explain research effectively, and how to work with The Conversation to boost research promotion across mediums. The in-person program will highlight the changing media landscape, the role of The Conversation and researchers as credible news sources, and how to craft the perfect pitch.

Research Data Management

The Queen's research community is reminded to visit the Research Data Management resource pages to learn about wise research data management practices, and also to view the draft Research Data Management (RDM) Institutional Strategy and provide feedback. An upcoming RDM Brown Bag Information Series, hosted in partnership with Resources for Research at Queen’s (R4R@Q), will also help researchers learn about the benefits and considerations around data management. Recent Honours and Awards

  • Queen's University professor Ryan Mulligan (Civil Engineering) received the Ocean Sciences Voyager Award from the American Geophysical Union (AGU), whose purpose is to advance Earth and space science.
  • Queen's University professor John McGarry (Political Studies) has been awarded the UNA-Canada’s Pearson Peace Medal from the United Nations Association in Canada (UNA-Canada).

With support from external funding, the QPI team offers numerous services, resources, and programs to support entrepreneurs, including those from Queen’s, and to accelerate the growth of startups and small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within Kingston and Eastern Ontario. Read about two literature-focused startups which recently participated in QPI’s Wings Acceleration Program and are using technology to advance their products to market:

  • Ruthy’s Reading Room is focused on providing children with access to stories that profile and reflect inclusive and diverse communities.
