Title: Approximating L-functions by finite Euler products

Abstract: In 2017, Matiyasevich demonstrated that the Riemann zeta function can be approximated to high precision using a small number of Euler factors, by a regularization-and-symmetrization procedure. Since then, this technique has been adapted to other contexts including divisor sums, L-functions of elliptic curves, and L-functions of modular forms. In this talk, we will recall Matiyasevich's construction and an alternative definition based on Mellin transforms (joint work with An Huang), as well as a new third approach by Stepan Samuelvich based on symmetrization of finite theta functions.
