Calvin FletcherThe Department of Mathematics and Statistics congratulates Calvin Fletcher on receiving the AMS Christopher Knapper Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Each year, the Alma Mater Society recognizes two teaching assistants whose dedication to teaching has made a meaningful contribution to the undergraduate student experience at Queen’s. The award honours teaching assistants who demonstrate excellence in the classroom and a strong commitment to student learning. It is named for Christopher Knapper, the founding Director of Queen’s Instructional Development Centre, in recognition of his commitment to enhancing education at Queen’s.

Reflecting on what he finds most rewarding about teaching and what receiving this recognition means to him, Calvin shared:

“There are few things as exciting as watching someone else's ‘eureka’ moment, that flash of joy which comes across their face and the exclamation of "Ohhh! I get it now!" It is these moments, scattered across the semester, that bring me so much delight in teaching. Thank you to all the students who nominated me for this award. Words communicate very poorly how much this has all meant to me. I am truly humbled by the fact you each took time out of your day to nominate me.”

Congratulations to Calvin Fletcher on this well-deserved recognition and on the positive impact he continues to have on his students.
